Healing in South Africa

08.04.15 | Youth Ministry

I  have never been on a mission trip before. In my mind, I am an ordinary believer, not a missionary. Mission trips are none of my business. Last year, when Joyce Jackson did fundraising for the South Africa trip, I was with her and helped her a little bit.

She asked me, "Why not come with us?"
I told her,  "I am not a missionary, I am not youth, I do administration, I would love to support you all with all my effort."
So she asked me, “What is God’s command?”
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength”, I replied.
Then she asked me,  "What else?"
“Go and make disciples of all nations” was my answer.
    She asked “Who?”
I took time to think about it, and said, "Everyone."
She then asked,  "Why not you?"
I took a deep breath and reviewed her question. "Yes, why not me?"
She prayed for me, for my courage. They went on the trip and witnessed how wonderful God worked in South Africa. I thought, "I should go next year."

In South Africa, God did lots of healing. Everyday we shared the Good News to local people. Everyday we experience God’s presence and healing. One day, Joanne, Sukie, Daxiang, the translators and I went to a narrow street. We were walking and telling the Good News door to door. We met a middle aged women and she told us her name was Joyce. We asked her do you know God. She said she was a Christian. She told us last year a China team came here shared with her the Good News and prayed for her boy who could not walk. They spent all their money on his disability. After praying, immediately, the boy was better. She and her boy started to attend church ever since then. Now her son is fine. She said she had spent money in the hospital, her son did not get better. However, by believing in the Lord, going to church and not spending money: her son was healed. The team she had met the previous year was our team that came last year. We were so encouraged by this news.

On the same street, we saw a lady using a wet black cloth to cover her
forehead and one eye. She looked like she was in very much pain. We decided to stop and chat with her to find out what had happened to her? She explained she had a very bad headache. Joanne asked whether we can pray for her. She agreed. So all of us prayed for her in different languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, English and Zulu. After the prayer, she took off the wet
cloth and smiled to us. Her face glowed.

Joanne asked her, “How do you feel?”
She said “I am fine now.”

At that moment, a witch doctor nearby smoked and gave her what look like a cigarette with tobacco inside and wrapped by newspaper. She received it from him, but she did not smoke. Joanne put it out and said to the witch doctor “She is fine, she does not need it.” Then the girl returned it to the witch doctor. He looked very angry, red eyes stared at Joanne. Joanne and Daxing started to share the gospel with the witch doctor. Sukie and I shared gospel with the girl. She received Christ and prayed the Salvation prayer.

Just then, her mom came home. She shouted, “Mom! Mom! Come, come here!”

Her mom went into their house so the lady and I followed her mom into their house. After sharing with her the good news and listening to her daughter’s witness, the mom also wanted to pray the salvation prayer. Sukie led her in prayer.

In the afternoon, we had a show for the children. Therefore we went into
the community to invite all the children to see the show. I saw the witch
doctor again. He was standing there, smiling at us. He acted just like my
    old friend.

I told him, “We will have a show for children, you should come to join in.“

He was very happy then followed us to the show place. It was a long show, over 2 hours. He stood there from beginning to the end. Through the dancing and singing show, we told people about God’s love and the Gospel. Afterwards I chatted with him, he said he would like to believe in God. A local friend led him in the salvation prayer. We encouraged him go to church and join a Bible study.

With these testimonies, I realized God was with us. He answered our prayers whenever we prayed. He loves people, He loves to see people know more
about Him. He blesses people when we pray to Him. I started to love, to pray and to bless people in the name of Jesus.

People from all over Africa come to Johannesburg to find jobs. We were taken to the highest tower of South Africa to pray for all the Africa. I loved to pray for them, because what your pray will become true. Even now Africa is like dry ground, gradually it become an oasis, because of God’s love.
